Hangzhou Museum & Culture Day Tour
Many places in China claim to be blessed with both stunning scenery and unique historic culture, but you can truly find both at Hangzhou. This private day trip offers a deep insight into the centuries-old culture of Hangzhou.
Your guide will meet you in the lobby of your Hangzhou downtown hotel at your chosen departure time, and you will first visit Qinghefang Pedestrian Street. This is the only ancient street in Hangzhou that has been well preserved, and it still retains its historic character. Qinghefang Pedestrian Street is famous for its many old workshops which maintain traditional ways of doing things as they have been done for thousands of years. Walking along the street you will be able browse a variety of crafts, food and products. Move on to Hu Qing Yu Tang Chinese Traditional Medicine Museum, the only Chinese traditional and herbal medicine museum in the country. The Museum includes the former residence of Hu Xueyan, who also established Hu Qing Yu Tang Traditional Medicine Store in 1874. In addition to gaining an insight into the history of Chinese medicine, you can watch a demonstration by experienced staff of the preparation of some medicines, and even try some if you are interested. After a traditional Chinese lunch at a local restaurant, explore the 1,400 year old Drum Tower. On the upper observation deck, you can try their hand at playing the drum, as it was done in the past. Finally head for the Official Kiln Museum of the Southern Song Dynasty, built on the site of one of the five famous kilns in Hangzhou during the Southern Song Dynasty 800 years ago. Part of the excavation is on view, plus exhibitions of some of the wonderful chinaware and ceramics that have been recovered, as well as examples of beautiful Chinese porcelain over the centuries. Return to your hotel after the tour.
