Tour Description

Known as "Venice in the East", Tongli water town is small in size yet could be the most beautiful with its ancient arched bridges, blue-stoned alleys, and an unhurried canal lifestyle and is only a 1 1/2 hours' ride from Shanghai.

Our guide will pick you up at your Shanghai hotel and escort you to this one thousand years old town with a private air-conditioned van. Fifteen streams divide the town into 7 islands and 49 historic bridges connect the town. A boat ride along the waterways is a great way to get a see the unique canal lifestyle. Hundreds of gardens established in Ming dynasty and Qing dynasty dot the town with the Tuisi Garden regarded as the best. This "Waterside Garden" was inspired by the Confucius saying "The wise find pleasure in water; the virtuous find pleasure in hills". Lunch will be at a local restaurant in the town. Return to Shanghai afterwards.
