Jewish Sites and Duolun Road Tour
Jewish history in Shanghai from the last century has become a hot issue in China as well as other parts of the world. During this private day trip your knowledgeable local guide will introduce you to some of the key places and stories that will reveal this history to you.
You will be picked up from your Shanghai hotel at your selected departure time and then head for Hongkou District, which played a key part of the history of the Jews in Shanghai. Before and during World War II many Jews chose to flee to Shanghai, then one of the friendliest cities in the world towards Jews. They were received kindly and settled in Hongkou District, where they and the local inhabitants suffered greatly later in the war. You will get a glimpse of this history in the alleys, houses and monuments of the area. On to visit Ohel Moishe Synagogue, also known as the former site of Moses Hall and renamed the Shanghai Jewish Refugees Museum in 1992. As the spiritual heart for Jews at the time, this is the most significant place to commemorate their history in Shanghai. Finally stroll along Duolun Road, where many notable celebrities of literature and writing have lived. This narrow street is dotted with many bronze sculptures of those celebrities along with several folklore museums for special categories. Your guide will return you to your hotel by private car to end this day trip.
