Pudong New Area

Pudong New Area is named for its location to the east of the Huangpu River. It is the most populous administrative district in Shanghai and is often referred to as China's Manhattan.

Pudong History

Pudong New Area is situated in the east of Shanghai, it takes the benefit of the location at the junction of the middle China coastal area and the mouth of the Yangtze River and faces the wide range of the Pacific Ocean. The average temperature is around 16 degrees centigrade, a comfortable city for living. In 1990, the China State Council officially announced to opening of a new area to strengthen the economy of Shanghai, Pudong is lucky to open a new page of history.

During the 19 Years of development, Pudong experienced great changes, this area has taken the place of the rice paddies of farmland into skyscrapers, and from the remote countryside to the prosperity urban areas, which has become the world's attention and known as the "Pearl of the Orient", people regard it as the epitome of modernization and a symbol of China's reform and opening up.

Population

Based on the 2010 population census statistic, the number of inhabitants in Pudong is 5,044,430, compared to the population census in 2000, the growth is more than 1,325,053 people in these 10 years, and the growth rate is 189.55%, of which 2,024,277 are newcomers from other parts of China.

Transportation

Over the past decade, Pudong New Area has expended more than 1000km of the transportation network, and the bridges that connect Puxi and Pudong have been built, these are made convenient for the people who live on both sides of the Huangpu River, Yangpu Bridge, Nanpu Bridge, Lupu Bridge, the East China Sea Bridge are the main spanning bridges.

The city transport tunnels of Dapu Tunnel, Bund Sightseeing Tunnel, and Yan'an East Road Tunnel release traffic downtown. Subway transit Lines 2, 4, 6, and 7 are all complete, except that the Shanghai Yangtze River Tunnel bridges transportation facilities. The maglev train that connected the outer Ring Road and Pudong International Airport has also been completed. All these transportation networks play an important role in the city's development.

Government

The government of Pudong New Area was established in 2000. At the same time, the Pudong Committee of the National People's Congress and the Pudong People's Political Consultative Conference were established. The Government of Pudong's new area status is equal to that of a sub-provincial city, which is a prefectural above-half-level city.

Airport

Pudong International Airport is one of the largest international airports in China and the largest one in Asia. It is reputed to be China’s largest airport, along with Beijing Capital International Airport and Hong Kong International Airport.

The airport is neighboring the towns of Jiangzhen, Shiwan, and Zhuqiao in Pudong New Area, covering an area of 40 square kilometers, 30 km away from Pudong Down Town. At present, Pudong airport landing flights for a day up to 560, flights number is accounting for 60% of the entire airport.

There are 73 international flights to different countries 62 flights to China's domestic cities, and 48 air companies from home and abroad choose to land in Pudong Airport.

Maglev Train

Shanghai Maglev demonstration line project was officially started on March 2, 2001; it was opened to the public at the end of December 2002. It is the first commercial operation of maglev trains in the world.

Shanghai Maglev demonstration line subway is from the west of Line 2 Longgang Road Station, and east to Pudong International Airport terminals, the total line is 30 kilometers long, the travel route transfer by roundway, and the design speed is up to 430 km/h.

One-way running only takes 8 minutes. There are two stations for one-way trips, two traction substations, a control center, a maintenance center, and a maintenance base with 3.5 km of temporary tracks.
