City Transport

Subway
Shanghai has 12 subway lines that link the city, with stations mainly set near top destinations and hubs. Rush hour tends to be 7 am to 9:30 am, and 4:30 pm to 7:30 pm during which the trains get extremely crowded. The lines are 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, and 13. 7 more lines are under construction to provide even more coverage in the future.

Public Bus
There are more than 1,100 official bus lines in Shanghai with about 50 more opened or adjusted every year. Travel by bus is more extensive and cheaper than by metro/subway. Buses can be categorized in many ways. Some are daytime buses, others run only during rush hour and at nighttime.
There are also bus lines defined by the areas they operate, for example being concentrated in the Western Pu River area, Eastern Pu River area, around the Pu River (bridge and tunnel), and the Suburban area. Almost all the buses today are air-conditioned and cost 2 Yuan; some bus fares are based on distance traveled. Some buses have a conductor service while others do not.
Ferry
Nanpu Bridge, Yangpu Bridge, Xupu Bridge, Lupu Bridge, and many tunnels across the Huangpu River offer direct links between the Pudong New District and the Puxi Area. Ferry boats thus provide convenient transport service across the Huangpu River.
This means travelers can shave time off their travels by avoiding the crowded bridges and tunnels all while appreciating the stunning river scenery. Ferryboats are also available between the mainland and 3 nearby islands: Chongming, Changqing, and Hengsha.

Wusongkou International Cruise Terminal
Wusongkou is situated in the northern part of Shanghai, at the confluence of the Huangpu River and Yangtze River, the original is the mouth of the Wusong River, known as Wusongkou. Shanghai International Cruise Terminal
Shanghai International Cruise Terminal (also known as the "one drop dock"). East starts from Gao Yang Road, and West to the Hongkou Port, North to Dongdaming Road, and South to Huangpu River. Baoyang Cruise Terminal
Baoyang Cruise Terminal is situated at No.18 Baoyang Road, it is owned by Shanghai Aton Shares company as well as a member of one of the seven main ports in Shanghai. Luchaogang Cruise Terminal is located in Luchao Town, Nanhui District, which is in the further south of Shanghai. It was established in 1995, reputed as the important portal of the South-East Sea. However, with the development of Lingang New Town, and the limitation of water level, energy levels, and tonnage, the original car and passenger ferry terminal has been unable to meet its development needs.
The newly built Luchaogang ferry boat terminal of car and passenger ferry piers is 180 meters next to the old port, available for 5,000-ton car and ferry boat parking. The new terminal is planned to be built up to 190 meters long and 30 meters wide, and the other side has an approaching bridge with more than 900 meters stretch of four-lane approach extending to the sea.
The completion of the new terminal will greatly enhance the transport capacities, and effectively release the traffic from Nanhui to Chengsi, and Zhoushan islands. keeping a great development of Nanhui's modern harbor city construction. At the same time, Luchaogang terminal will become an important connection bridge between Shanghai ports.
