Having been the capital of China for 10 dynasties, Xian has to this day grown to be a large and impressive city on its own. The now infamous Terracotta Warriors and Horses tomb of the first emperor is of course a must-see, as well as other religious constructions and various museums showcasing the wide history of the Shaanxi Province. However, nearby Xian are a lot of incredible natural wonders with Mount Hua being among the best of the best. On this 4 day experience, you will witness the best of Xian’s human and natural wonders.
Welcome to China and Xian! We are happy to host you. After you arrive, we will pick you up and transfer you to your hotel in the city. You will have the rest of the day at your leisure to rest or explore the nearby area as you wish.
Your first stop in Xi'an will be one of the most impressive - the Terracotta Warriors and Horses. The site's discovery in 1974 was entirely unexpected, but it has since proven to be one of the most significant excavations in the 20th century. There are more than 8,000 terracotta pieces that have been unearthed, each with its own details and characteristics lending researchers to firmly believe that the eternal army was based after the emperor's real militia.
Take lunch at a local restaurant nearby and continue your time in Xi'an with a visit to Big Wild Goose Pagoda, one of the city's ancient landmarks. The Buddhist monk Xuanzang supervised its foundation in order to house the countless spiritual relics he gathered over a period of 17 years from India. Old tablets and statues populate Big Wild Goose Pagoda, and the entire building is a fine representation of Tang Dynasty architecture.
Mount Huashan is known throughout China for its dramatic heights and drops. The highest of the 5 main peaks is South Peak which stands 2,154.9 meters (7,070 feet) tall. This area is part of the Qin Ling Mountain Range and because of its incredible natural standing, it has been a very important area for Taoism and today's visitors will find temples and other religious structures scattered amidst the slopes. Climbing to the peaks is one of the most adrenaline-filled and dangerous activities on earth, so we make it easy for you to be able to appreciate the views by including a roundtrip journey via cable car to the top instead! There are various viewpoints that offer breathtaking panoramas in this park such as Shuguang Pavilion, Lion Peak, Jade Screen Pavilion, Bright Peak, and more. Simple lunch en route is included today.
Shaanxi History Museum and the ancient city wall are 2 of the most historically significant sites in Xi'an. At the Shaanxi History Museum, you will walk through 4 main galleries that show the impressive nature of the Tang Dynasty and other eras such as the Zhou, Qin, and Han Dynasties who had much influence here. Bronze wares, pottery figures, and mural paintings are among the treasures found in the museum.
Go with your guide to the ancient city wall. This was the ancient capital's strong and proven defense system used to watch for incoming enemies as well as to protect from other outside forces. In the past, soldiers would stand watch at the dozens of ramparts and watchtowers at all hours of the day. Today, visitors are able to walk along and see all of these elements of the fortification. You can enjoy a visit with a bicycle ride along the top of the city wall as well. As you enjoy your tour, take note of the 4 main elaborate gates, one located at each cardinal direction, which served as the principle entrances and exits from Xian. Finally, explore the moat area around the wall which offered extra protection to the city.
Today's meal will be at a local restaurant. At the end of the day, we will take you to Xian's airport for your outbound journey. We thank you for discovering this ancient Chinese capital with us!
